Fast GPU, easy to use

Needed an NVIDIA A6000 for a quick render. Got it set up in minutes. Performance was excellent. No issues, very satisfied.

Fantastic for my AI models!

Oh my goodness, RunPod is amazing! I needed an NVIDIA RTX 4090 for some Stable Diffusion experiments, and it was so fast to get going. The serverless option is incredibly easy to use. I got my models running in no time. I will absolutely be using them again for all my projects. You guys should really try it out, it's a game changer!

Easy setup, stable performance

I used RunPod last week to spin up an NVIDIA H100 for a large language model fine-tuning project. The ordering process was pretty straightforward; I just picked the GPU and region, and it launched quickly. It took about 3 minutes to get the pod running with a pre-configured PyTorch environment, which was great. Performance was stable throughout my 36-hour run, no drops or unexpected shutdowns. I also used a Persistent Volume, and attaching it was simple. Billing seemed accurate when I checked the usage logs. Overall, it provided a robust environment for my AI training without any major headaches. The only minor thing was finding the exact SSH command in their docs took a couple of extra clicks than I expected.

Good for quick projects, small issues

I recently tried RunPod for an LLM Inference Endpoint. The setup was mostly intuitive, and the NVIDIA A100 I got performed as expected for my tasks. Pricing seemed fair for the compute power. However, I did have a small hiccup with a custom Docker image I tried to deploy; it took a bit of debugging on my end to get it working, as the error messages weren't super clear. Support documentation helped eventually. Overall, it's a solid platform, but there's room for improvement in their custom image deployment feedback.

Got my models running

Used RunPod for some TensorFlow Pods. It was pretty easy to get started, I just picked the instance type and everything fired up. I mean, it worked as advertised. No drama, which is always good. The pricing stuff was clear too, so no surprises there. Felt pretty good about the whole thing.

can you actually use custom docker images on runpod? or is it just their pre-built ones?

S Sophie J. 1 month ago
Yep, absolutely. That's one of the best things about it, you can bring your own Docker image. Super flexible.

W Wendy 1 month ago
For sure, custom Docker images are supported. It's really handy for specific environments or if you have a complex setup.

thinking about using RunPod for some Stable Diffusion work but also looked at Vast.ai. any strong opinions on which is better for that kind of task?

G Gwen J. 1 month ago
RunPod's serverless for SD is pretty sweet if you don't want to manage instances. Vast can be cheaper per hour if you find a good deal, but sometimes the setup is more fiddly.

For SD inference, RunPod's serverless is super convenient. For training, I've had good luck with both but RunPod's H100s are top tier if you can get them.

yo, anyone know if runpod does student discounts? trying to train a model for a project and every dollar counts lol

M Mia T. 4 weeks ago
I don't think they have an official student discount policy like some places. Best bet is to look for a new user credit or referral code.

A Amber C. 4 weeks ago
Nah, never seen a student discount from them directly. But usually new sign-ups get some free credits, so that's something. Check if anyone posted a referral link around.

are runpod free credits like, a real thing? thinking of signing up but don't wanna get baited with some tiny amount that does nothing.

N Neil M. 1 month ago
Yeah, they are. I got like $15 when I signed up last year. Enough to test out a small GPU for a few hours.

O Omar 1 month ago
Totally real. Usually between 5 and 25 bucks, depends on the promo. It's enough to spin up a basic pod and see if you like the platform, definitely not nothing.

Thinking of trying RunPod for some LLM stuff, but heard about community vs secure cloud. what's the actual difference, is one way cheaper or something?

D Dan F. 1 month ago
Community cloud is usually cheaper cos it's like, other people's hardware. Secure cloud is all RunPod's own stuff, more reliable if you have super sensitive data.
3
M Mark Q. 1 month ago
Yeah, community cloud can be a bit of a crapshoot sometimes on availability but pricing is often better. Secure cloud is what you want for anything mission critical or if you're paranoid about data privacy.

I'm worried about accidentally racking up charges. how do you make sure you stop a pod completely and don't get billed for idle time?

A Andre M. 1 month ago
You gotta explicitly hit the 'stop' button for the pod. Just closing the browser won't do it. Once it's stopped, it shows as 'terminated' or 'stopped' and you won't be charged.

D Derek 1 month ago
Make sure you click stop. If you just let it sit there or close the tab, it keeps running and billing you. Pretty straightforward once you know, but definitely easy to forget the first time.
